New Furnace Installation Costs

Installing a new heating system in your home is a significant investment. Therefore, it is wise to consult with a professional and licensed HVAC contractor like SOS XTREME Comfort® to learn what your new furnace installation costs will be. Our home comfort advisor will assess your current situation, determine the size, age and configuration of your existing heating system. He will also discuss your home heating needs. Armed with this information, he will be able to propose the best system to fit your needs and budget.

The very first consideration that plays a part in a new furnace is the type of fuel that is used. The  most common fuel types are heating oil, propane, natural gas and electricity. Typically, homeowners will stick to the same type of fuel that they are currently using. However, in some cases, it may make sense to switch the fuel type at the time that you are installing a new furnace. Our home comfort advisor will be able to guide you through this process and help you make the most cost-efficient and energy-efficient decision.

Average Cost of Installation for Gas Furnaces

new furnace installation costsIn the Hudson Valley, North New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania, natural gas furnaces are very common. There are many variables that play into the pricing equation with regards to the installation of a new gas furnace. For example, the sizing of the furnace (BTUs and blower motor sizing) will dictate the cost. Additionally, the manufacturer of the unit also plays a role in the pricing.

Installed Trane furnaces typically range in pricing from $4200-$5600 for a 1500 sq. ft. home. The pricing will increase with a larger home or with a home that requires modifications to the existing ductwork. Of course, to get an accurate price estimate, we would need to come to your home to perform an in-home estimate. All of our estimates are 100% free.

Average Installation Cost For Electric Furnaces

Electric furnaces, otherwise known as heat pumps, are common in moderate climate areas. This is because these systems will only produce heat when the outdoor air temperature is above -15°F. We do see quite a bit of heat pumps and electric furnaces installed in our service area.

Just as in the case of gas furnaces, the cost of installing an electric furnace can vary greatly. Oftentimes this is based on the square footage of the home. As a general guideline, a 1500 sq. ft. home should expect to pay approximately $2000-$2500 for a new electric furnace installed. As the size of the house increases, the electric furnace sizing also increases. Consequently, the price increases.

Again, in order to receive an accurate price estimate, our home comfort advisor needs to assess your current situation. He will come to your home and determine the best solution for you and your family. We prefer to work with you, hand-in-hand, to build the best system to meet your needs.

Other Factors That Determine the Pricing Of A New Furnace

The efficiency rating of your new furnace will dictate the price of the equipment. There are several factors to consider when selecting what type of unit to have installed. The first thing to know is that furnaces are rated by their Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). This is an efficiency rating that allows you to compare units side-by-side.

As a general rule, mid level furnaces will have an AFUE rating between 80% and 83%. High-efficiency furnaces will be rated in the high 90% range, 95% to 96%.

Another standardized rating system is the Energy Star rating. It is important to know that the energy star ratings are dependent upon the fuel being burned. For example, a gas furnace earns the Energy Star rating when it performs with an efficiency level of 90% or more. Conversely, an oil fired furnace earns the Energy Star rating when it operates at an efficiency level of 85% or more.

When considering which types of units to install, you will need to calculate your return on investment. This can be a little complicated therefore, we have provided a step-by-step guide to help you calculate your ROI.
